What is OBSCENE, anyways?: Intimacy with a Stranger

I met someone on a dating app while in Canada.

I had tailored my bio looking for folks of all expressions who wanted to be involved with OBSCENE by modeling for some safe for work (mostly) concepts and any locals that wanted to show me where a good cafe or restaurant was.

"NOKIA" sent a very nice opening message saying he was a curious art admirer, and wanted to treat me to coffee and hear more about the gallery. I, eager for any reason to gush about my current obsession, obliged.

Thankfully, "NOKIA" agreed to allow me to film a portion of our first few moments together after ordering our drinks.

I had been wanting to film some sort of complete expression about this work, but had been struggling with the inauthenticity of setting up with lights and multiple takes to do so. I wanted to express something real and in the moment. When I've had in-person conversations with people about OBSCENE, I feel like I could properly express how much this project means to me, and how much I believe in the impact it can have.

"NOKIA" and I went on to talk for the next four and a half hours, chatting on topics from generational trauma and what it means to decolonize your mind to weight lifting routines and the effects of creatine. It was truly refreshing to share space with a new person who was capable of holding it. I believe we have many opportunities to share in genuine, platonic intimacy with new people, and more capacity to do so than we exercise.

Below is an un-cut clip from our conversation:
